In today’s business world there is substantial risk to operations and a primary concern should be your supply chain and how it is needed to perform, its key activities and the related people and facilities that supports your supply chain i.e. suppliers, assembly or manufacturing plants and distribution centers and warehouses and systems.

Supply Chain disruption can be a primary threat to revenue and profits.  Thus risk management should be a key focus for management and development of a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) an essential “must have” for business leaders.

Overview Risks & Disruptions

In today’s business world there is substantial risk to operations and a primary business concern is your supply chain and how it must perform, its key activities, Its staffing, and the physical facilities that supports your supply chain i.e. suppliers, assembly or manufacturing plants, distribution centers and warehouses and systems.

Supply Chain disruption can be a primary threat to revenue and profits.  Thus risk management should be a key focus for management and development of a Business Continuity Plan (BCP) an essential tool

 for business leaders.

There are always supply chain challenges to be managed, such as:

Unforeseen Disruption

However, what is very difficult to manage are disruptions that are unforeseen or only apparent with short notice.  These disruptions can be broadly categorized as acts of nature and acts of humans and/or lack of action taken by humans.  Just about any serious disruption will add significant burden to dealing with supply chain challenges particularly when life threatening events occur.

Our approach to helping Clients begins with an Assessment.  Necessary to understand risks by location, known risks or risks that should have been known, risks uncovered as a result of our Assessment and business operations and products that would be affected, the number and categories of employees and assets at risk or in potential danger. The next step would be the development of your BCP manuals tailored to fit each location’s requirements; the BCPs would define the processes and remedial actions to take in face of the disruptive occurrence. The dangers to be addressed in each manual section range from:

Acts of Nature

  • Weather-cyclones, hurricanes resultant high winds and flooding

  • Earthquakes-fault lines known, unknown or ignored, potential events

  • Fires-resulting from weather occurrences or conditions and earthquakes

  • Meteors colliding with the Earth

  • Pandemic – global disease

Acts of Humans

  • Violence, negligence, i.e. setting fires or causing other significant damage

  • Domestic or foreign terrorism

  • Threatening or actual actions by humans can affect human health, life, and cause physical or intellectual damage to the business – from systems to operations

Bottom Line: Supply Chain disruption can easily negatively affect your customers, your profits as well as the livelihood and lives of your employees.

The purpose and value of a customized BCP:  for each location provide your corporate risk managers and plant and DC facility managers what they need to know … what actions to take and who will provide assistance.    Your managers need to know how best to handle any emergency and then what likely steps are needed to recover.

We work collaboratively to gather the exposure details, review what emergency plans are in place and the processes at all types of physical locations.  We develop a Quick Reference Tree by types of threats for emergency-recovery use in the field and at corporate office locations.

Here is a client example of a Table of Contents for a BCP Manual – it is customized for each Client as every business has differences, not a cookie-cutter solution.

Our Typical Deliverable: collaboratively create for our clients a strategic solution for dealing with Risk & Disruption at the facility level supported by customized guidebook known as Business Continuity Plan (BCP Manuals) for each facility that will help mitigate and manage risks and provide guidance for effectively managing recovery from disruptive events.
